The Feathers Hotel has made two major appointments ahead of its much anticipated £1m investment in construction and refurbishment work which starts imminently.
Thomas Copp and Russ Sparke have been appointed by the Ludlow hotel as conservation consultant and designer respectively.
Together, the pair form a strategic partnership team and will work hand in hand with Crest Hotel management to ensure the hotel’s makeover complies with conservation rules that are currently placed on the Grade I listed building; whilst also sensitively upgrading and transforming the overall look and feel internally that is in-keeping with the tradition and heritage of the iconic building.
Jason Hiley, group operations director at Crest Hotels, who own The Feathers Hotel, said: “Both Thomas and Russ will provide invaluable experience and expertise to the renovation of The Feathers.
“The building dates back to 1619 and is much loved, not only by the people of Ludlow but throughout the country and we want to preserve as much of the original features and identity as possible with the refurbishment. To help us realise our vision, we have made two high quality appointments who will help give the hotel a new lease of life for what we hope is many, many more years to come.
“We are committed to investing in the area and look forward to re-opening one of the country’s most iconic hotels, recruiting a valued team locally with a variety of roles and offering a wonderful guest experience that keeps demand high further helping boost tourism and the local economy.”
Boasting a wealth of experience, Thomas has acted on behalf of a whole host of businesses in highly sensitive locations throughout the UK. He has also advised on the adaptation, re-use and alteration of some of the country’s most significant heritage assets, including the redevelopment of a Grade I listed country house in Cheshire and alterations to listed hotels in London, Windsor and Berkshire.
Commenting on the appointment, Jason Hiley added: “Thomas is a fantastic addition to the team. His experience speaks volumes and he is able to provide high-quality advice to facilitate the re-use of historic buildings, upgrading them to meet the demands of the twenty-first century, while retaining their character and significance which is all too important to us.”
RSD Interiors, headed up by Russ Sparke, have worked with global brands such as Hilton, IHG and Accor hotels for over 30 years. The experienced team pride themselves on creating spaces that provide a memorable experience to visitors and staff alike, by creating a sense of place and comfort, that is in keeping to the style and heritage to each individual property.
Crest Hotels completed the purchase of The Feathers in December, 2018. The firm is investing more than £1m to re-position the 40-bedroom property, which includes an aesthetic makeover to public areas, bedrooms and the function suite, as well as complete new plumbing throughout.
The customer journey will also benefit from a new food concept being introduced, the addition of a new tea room and restaurant which aims to achieve accreditation with two AA Rosette’s within six months of opening.
